All three of us went to the University of Georgia and majored in special education.

When we first started our teaching program as sophomores, we were placed in some challenging classrooms. We had students with significant behavioral and emotional challenges that made it difficult to be successful at school and in their homes.

While in our internships, we tried the different strategies we were learning from the teachers with whom we were interning. Because of learning and behavioral challenges, most of these strategies only worked for a short period of time and in isolation. They were based upon punishment and looking back now; they were terrible approaches.

We were frustrated, disappointed, and starting to lose hope. Our mission was to serve children and ensure their academic and life success. However, early on, it didn't seem to be panning out because of the behavioral issues of the students we were trying to teach.

However, in our junior year of college when we spent a semester learning and implementing a research-based approach to the behavioral success of our students. The method is called Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). After we learned its core principles and started implementing them in the classroom, everything changed!

All of a sudden, children started paying attention, completing their work, working independently, doing their homework, and getting along with others.

While it wasn't perfect, compared to how it was before ABA, it seemed like a miracle!

All at once, we each saw our futures as bright opportunities to fulfill our mission.

Over the past 20 years, we have served as educators implementing Applied Behavioral Analysis techniques in various settings ranging from pre-k through college. Collectively, we have worked with thousands of students, parents, and teachers to empower them to be successful academically, emotionally, and behaviorally.
